It is easier to recognize the purslane leaves than for its flowers. This is a very common weed that spreads along the ground with its branches. The flowers are yellow and go unnoticed, and its fruit is dry. Flowers at the end of spring and has some medicinal uses discussed below.
The most common medicinal use of purslane as a laxative is natural. The presence of mucilage in the plant gives it the potential laxative and purgative, as along the digestive tract carries substances harmful to the body. Besides being used as a laxative plant, the purslane is attributed as the use of diuretic, demulcent, hypoglycemic and anathematic. However, the most consistent benefit of the plant is its potential as a natural laxative.
Purslane infusion is prepared with a tablespoon of fresh plant in a cup of boiling water. Three cups a day spread over the meals enough to exploit their potential. In addition, external use can be used in a more concentrated infusion as above and applied on wounds and boils.
